Mirach Energy ‘Near Finalizing Plans for Block D’


Singapore-listed oil and gas company Mirach Energy, which owns 48 percent of its local partner CPHL (Cambodia), is close to finalizing its plans for oil exploration in Block D, after it has received approval from the Ministry of Mines and Energy to extend its exploration permit until December 2018, the company said in its 2015 financial statement released on Wednesday.

Forestry Crimes Decrease by 9 Percent in 2015, Report Says


Forestry crimes fell by around 9 percent last year compared to 2014, according to an annual report released by the Ministry of Agriculture on Friday.

“For 2015, there were 2,189 cases related to forestry, wildlife and encroachment on state forest land,” the report says. “There were 1,546 cases sent to the court and fines issued in 643 smaller cases.”

Pailin gem mine shut down after inspection


Provincial environment department officials shut down a gem mine in Pailin province yesterday, after an inspection found that the operators had not obtained proper authorisation.

Villagers living nearby reported the mine in Boyakha commune after heavy-duty machinery started entering the site and a nearby river became increasingly polluted.
