ALiSEA Background

With Support from Uni4Coop, Development and Partnership in Action (DPA) works as National Secretariat for the Agroecological Learning Alliance in South East Asia (ALiSEA). ALiSEA is a regional platform that enable local and regional agroecology stakeholders to leverage their knowledge and develop evidence-based studies that can be widely disseminated in order to assist a regional shift toward agroecology.

The ALiSEA Network has over 150 members from various agroecological perspectives and backgrounds. The diversity of its players (CSOs and NGOs, Farmer groups, Research & Academia, Private Sector, Government), its extensive geographic focus (Greater Mekong Sub-Region), and its allure make it rather exceptional. ALISEA operates both locally and regionally, with four nations at present—Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam. The website has an online library as well as an interactive map showcasing agroecology initiatives.

The purpose of the ALiSEA network is to fill the gap in knowledge sharing and to spread the wealth of experience from various regions. It seeks to facilitate the agroecological concepts to be incorporated into the practices of farmers and business, and public policy by promoting their widespread distribution and awareness. ALiSEA has three main objectives:

1.   Strengthening knowledge and experience sharing among agroecological initiatives and actors

2.   Increasing visibility and credibility of agroecological movement towards policy makers and consumers.

3.   Scaling up the development and adoption of agroecological practice among farmers.

Currently, the ALiSEA Network is part of a wider program, Agroecology and Safe Food System Transitions (ASSET) project (2020-2025), funded by the French Agency for Development (AFD), the European Union (EU), and the French Facility for Global Environment (FFEM), coordinated by GRET in close collaboration with CIRAD.
